  • Last update: 03/2005

This page has some information about the drivers and programs used to get linux up and running in this laptop. The distribution used was Debian pre-sarge (beta 4) netinst.

Hardware list

XFree

The chipset uses the sis driver and I have used the XF86Config-4 automatically generated by Knoppix.

External Monitor

Ok

TV-Out

Ok

Touchpad

Works fine with the standard PS/2 driver, but to enable special functions (such as scrolling and short touch for button events) needs de synaptics XFree driver that can downloaded here or by apt-getting the “synaptics” package.

CD-RW/DVD Combo

CD/Dvd is autmatically detected but in order to enable the recorder it’s needed to use the kernel SCSI emulation workaround.

PCMCIA/Cardbus

Detected using the pcmcia_core and yenta_driver. works with kernel 2.6.10 …

Firewire

Not tested yet

USB

OK.

Additional Keys (www, email, volume)

Can be easily configured using the hotkeys debian package. Here's my keyboard config, generated listening events with xev.

Audio

Works with the i810_audio kernel module.

Lan

Autodetected by installer (uses sis900 module).

Modem

Works using the pctel driver, but only under kernel 2.4. I didn’t find driver for kernel 2.6.

Power Management (APM and ACPID)

After enabling ACPI, APM on the kernel and installing the acpid package, the Battery Monitor can be used and the Power Button is able to shutdown linux.
